NBA season
1961–62 NBA
Boston Celtics won the 1962 NBA title, beating the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.
The season in brief
The 1961–62 season belonged to Wilt Chamberlain statistically and to the Boston Celtics in the standings. Chamberlain averaged 50.4 points a game for the Philadelphia Warriors and, on March 2 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, scored 100 points against the New York Knicks — a night that still has no equal. Bill Russell was named MVP, and his Celtics won a seven-game Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers for their fourth straight championship. The contrast between Chamberlain's numbers and Russell's titles defined the rivalry for the rest of the decade.
